Our Site
The McKinney Net website is arranged in what is known as a
"frameset" for ease of navigation. When the first page loads in your web browser, it
actually loads three webpages at once. The first is the "McKinney Net Logo" frame in
the top left corner which contains our site's logo which, when clicked, will return you to the
main (Home) page. The next page to load is our "Banner Frame" at the top of your
window. This frame is where we display the advertising banners of our site's sponsors. The last
frame to load is the "Main" frame which contains our Home Page and from then on, any
requested pages will load in that part of your window. If we have linked to another internet
website other than McKinney Net, we will usually open that page either "on top" of our
frameset or in a "new window" meaning that another browser window will open containing
that page and our site will still be open in the original window. We do this so as not to
confuse our site's visitors by making them think that the "other" site is part of
"our" site.
We have gone to considerable lengths to
assure that our site is viewable with most any web browser and at most any resolution
(screen/monitor setting). If something at our site does not look right to you, please let us
know by clicking here.
Resolution
We realize that different people have these settings set in different ways.
We highly recommend a resolution of 800 pixels by 600 pixels which is standard on most
computers. At settings lower than this such as 640x480, the content of some pages may be off the
right side of the window and those users may have to use the scroll bar at the bottom to scroll
over before being able to see that content. But again, we know this is an issue and have tried
to address it when writing the pages.
Browsers
We also realize that there are almost as many computer users using
Netscape Navigator (or above) web browsers as there are using Microsoft Internet Explorer. We
have made every effort to assure that both users can equally enjoy our site. We do recommend
Internet Explorer 3.02 or above. This browser is available from Microsoft's web site as a free
download. You can click here to go to the Internet
Explorer Home Page and download the browser.
Font Settings
Internet Explorer allows users to select the font size for the web
browser. This is easily done in version 3.02 with the menu item View
then Fonts. We recommend that McKinney Net visitors use a
setting of Medium to best view our site.
Some Issues with Netscape
Netscape Navigator, while a popular browser, is somewhat limited in
it's abilities and for that reason we have tried to avoid including items in our site that would
not be supported by Netscape. However, some of our sponsors pages may contain background music (MIDIs),
marquees (scrolling text) or other components that may require that a "Plug-in" be
installed. Another feature not supported by Navigator is the Tool Tips (if you will) that appear
when Internet Explorer users hover their mouse cursor over a graphic. While most all of the
graphics used by us do have these "Tool Tips", it is really not a big issue if you are
not able to see them because you are using Netscape Navigator.
Navigation Tips
Our site is very easy to navigate using the Table of Contents on the
left side of every page. To return to the Home page when at any other area of the site, you can
click on the "Home" link or the McKinney Net logo in the upper left hand corner. You
can also jump directly from the page you are on to another area of the site using the links in
the Table of Contents. Lets say you are on the Local Info page and want to look at the Weather
Page. You would simply click that link to go straight to that page. If you ever do get
"stuck" on a page, you can always click the "Back" button on your browser.
If you do get stuck we ask that you let us know so we can
correct the problem.
